...How a Weekend in Italy Helped Me Reconnect With Myself.
I’ve wanted to visit Italy for over 20 years. It’s been one of those quiet dreams sitting patiently on the shelf, waiting for the right moment. So when I saw @_twome announce a one-day macramé retreat in Marche, something inside me stirred.

What followed was one of the most incredible weekends of my life.

The retreat was held at the beautiful @casajanna_, nestled in the rolling hills of Marche. The food was all locally grown and prepared with so much love. Everything about the space — the quiet, the light, the simplicity — helped me slow down and breathe more deeply. I felt so welcome, and I felt… like me again.
But the most unexpected part came after I shared the experience online. I posted about how much this trip meant to me — not just as a macramé retreat, but as a huge step out of my comfort zone. I travelled solo, I navigated a new place, I did something entirely for myself. The response I received from the community was overwhelming.
One comment said: “We all need to take a leaf out of your book Jenny, if we’re brave enough! ❤️”
Another read: “Love this ❤️ definitely a mantra to live by!”
And the one that truly stopped me in my tracks came from my daughter:
“You look so happy, mum. I’m really glad you went.”

That one sentence brought everything full circle. Because as much as this trip was a personal journey, it was also a quiet declaration to myself — and to my daughter — that I am more than just my roles. I’m a mum, yes, but also a creative, a curious traveller, a woman who is allowed to fill her own cup.
And by doing that — by choosing joy, growth, and presence — I believe I’m showing her what self-worth and self-care look like. I hope she sees that challenging myself made me stronger, and that being brave enough to say yes helped me be a better mum — and someone she might one day want to be like.
It reminded me that we don’t need huge changes or months away to feel transformed. Sometimes, all it takes is one weekend, one step, one yes.
So if you’ve been dreaming of something — whether it’s a trip, a class, a new skill, or even just a few hours of stillness — this is your gentle nudge: you’re allowed to want it. You’re allowed to go after it. And if you can dream it, you can do it 💛
